Hi, I'm Matthew!
About Me
Hello! My name is Matthew Cavender and I am the founder of Homestead Plumbing and Heating. I am a licensed Master Plumber in the state of New Jersey. I am also a member of the NJ State League of Master Plumbers and the Pascack Valley Master Plumbers Association.
Despite being a proud New Jersey resident, I must confess that my roots reach a little father West from here, out towards Central Pennsylvania (born in Hershey, the sweetest place on Earth, and raised in Lancaster county, not far from where the Amish live).Â
I come from a large Polish-Catholic family and am the second oldest of 5 brothers. My parents were and continue to be hard-working masters of efficiency, who managed to take on projects like building a house, starting a homeless shelter, and raising 5 boys (perhaps their most daunting task). My father is one of the most skilled tradesmen I have ever encountered and I am very excited to continue on his legacy through this company.
I met my wife, Jeanette Thomas, at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. We bonded over our love for theatre, good movies, and hiking. Together, we went to graduate school at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC and after grad school, we moved back to the Bergen Country area and decided to settle down. We have since been blessed with two beautiful children who inspire us to work hard every day.
Before founding Homestead Plumbing & Heating, I spent several years working under the advisement of Kevin Nast of Mathis Nast Plumbing & Heating. During those years, I took in many lessons from Kevin, including his philosophy on community-driven service work; Stand by your work, stand by your word, respect the Customer and their needs, and good things will follow.
This same philosophy is now the center of our mission here at Homestead Plumbing & Heating. Our name is meant to call forth the spirit of community. We are looking forward for the opportunity to serve your Homestead.
